What to Expect

We want to make your vehicle relocation easy!

There is more to shipping a vehicle from one location to another than meets the eye. At ABRS we understand that moving is stressful and we have compiled a list of questions and answers that we frequently are asked.

If you are new to the process, you may not know what questions to ask while choosing the car shipping service that is right for you. Not to worry. We provide you with superior service and guide you through the vehicle transport process from start to finish.

How far in advance should I schedule my vehicle pickup?

The more notice we have the better. Trucks are picking up and delivering vehicles all over the country. With advance notice, we can better schedule your vehicles pickup.

Is my car insured during transport?

Yes, your vehicle will be insured against in-transit damage caused by carrier negligence or equipment failure by the transport truck.Vehicles are insured up to the Kelley Blue Book value – $50,000.00 maximum of depreciated value. Excess valuation cost will apply for vehicles valued over $50,000.00. You should maintain your primary insurance for acts of God and other exclusionary conditions. The contract or bill of lading will explain this in detail.

How long will it take to pickup and deliver my vehicle?

A coast to coast trip usually takes from 10 to 21 days. Shorter trips can take from 3 to 10 days, depending on the distance. Traffic, weather, and truck breakdowns are other factors that can delay the trip. You will be notified promptly if delays occur.

Can I ship personal items in my vehicle?

Per federal regulations, you cannot ship any personal items in your vehicle. We are not responsible for your personal items or the damage they cause to your vehicle. Only factory installed items are covered. The transport truck is subject to inspection by the DOT and the Police at every state line and can be fined up to $10,000 if found to be carrying household goods. The car is subject to being impounded and all fines and expenses will be passed along to the owner of the car. Under NO circumstances can the car contain firearms, hazardous materials, illegal substances, or contraband.

If I cannot be reached at delivery time, what will happen to my vehicle?

We will make every effort to contact you the night before the estimated delivery day. If you are not available for delivery, we will keep your vehicle on the truck to deliver at a later date or we will leave it at a local storage facility. In which case, both options will cost you more. Let us know ASAP if you will not be around for delivery.

How Can I Make a Payment?

Payments for transport can be made in advance by using Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Credit card information must be collected before shipment. A deposit may be taken with booking and the balance is due upon pick up of your vehicle.

Will you pickup and deliver my vehicle door to door?

If you choose door to door service, we will make every effort to give you door to door service. But, because of the size of the vehicles we use, 9-10 car haulers, we may not be able to get to your door. Also, some towns and cities will not allow a truck this size to travel on their streets due to city codes. If we cannot get to your door, we ask that you help us by meeting our truck at a convenient location such as parking lot close to your doorway.

What if my vehicle does not run?

We will add additional charges to cover an inoperable vehicle in our quote if you inform us up front of the vehicle’s condition to your quote. However, there are some services not available for inoperable vehicles.

If I cancel my order, will I receive a refund?

If we assign your vehicle for pick up and you cancel the order, you will be responsible for any fees incurred. This is typically covered under the initial deposit. Additionally if we send out a carrier or driver to pick up your vehicle and you cancel in route or after they arrive, there will be additional charges. This will pay for fuel and the time our trucks use in heading to your location.

How do I know when to take off work to be available for vehicle pickup?

Most drivers can work around your schedule. Please don’t take time off work unless the driver requests. Please note that the pickup with the driver are arranged within 24 hours of the required pick up date.

When can you pickup my vehicle?

We specialize in ASAP (As Soon As Possible) moves. An auto shipping or car transport carrier will be assigned to pickup your vehicle in most cases, within a 2 to 3 day window of your requested ship date. In most cases we can arrange pick up on your desired date. For an additional fee, we can arrange a guaranteed pickup within 24 hours. Call to see if service is available in your area.

Do I have to be present when you pickup or deliver my vehicle?

Yes, you or your designated individual must be present at both the pickup and delivery for when the auto transport driver arrives to sign off on the condition of the vehicle.

Will my vehicle be driven?

The driver will drive your car on and off the car transport, and may have to unload and re-load your car occasionally during transport to optimize space on the trailer. This unloading / reloading is kept to a minimum. Your car should not be driven otherwise, and odometer readings should be noted at pickup and delivery. Discrepancies should be noted on the delivery receipt and signed off by the driver.

Can I have my vehicle picked-up on a specific day and time?

Yes, we can arrange this service in most cases, with advance notice. This service can be arranged for your convenience in most metropolitan areas. See our 24 hour Guaranteed Pickup and delivery option during the quoting process.

How do I check on the status of my order?

Call our Customer Service Representative at the toll free number and we will track your order and give you an update as soon as possible. We also communicate throughout the process with emails and phone calls based on your preference.

How much does it cost to transport an automobile?

The cost of transporting an automobile depends on a couple of factors:

  • The distance involved (from where to where?).
  • What type of car you want transported (SUV’s are bigger and heavier, so they cost more to transport as they take up two slots on the car carriers).
  • Pick up dates
  • Delivery requirements
  • Services you request

What is a drive away service and how do they work?

Drive away companies provide a person to drive your car from one location to another.

You are responsible for any mechanical problems your car encounters during the drive (from flat tires to blown up engines). If you hire a drive away service, your car should be in EXCELLENT running condition.

Sometimes your car can be delivered slightly faster, depending on the availability of drivers in the area.

We do not provide this service or recommend this service.

Can my vehicle be picked up before noon on the day I am leaving?

We strongly advise against this arrangement, as leaving the auto pick up until the last minute can cause undue stress at an already stressful time. Careful, advance planning and pick up minimizes stress and provides for a smooth, uneventful relocation. In the event that there are no other options and this is the ONLY time you are available to release the vehicle, we will arrange for a local flatbed to pick up the vehicle as early in the day as possible.

I want to leave the cover on my car during transport, is this ok?

It is not recommended. Your car will be safely transported without the cover. The cover must be removed prior to transport, as the wind can cause chafing and damage on the car’s surface and will also tear the cover.

Insurance does not cover the tarp or related damage.

Why does it take "X" number of workings days to move my car?

Federal and DOT laws only allows our drivers to drive a certain amount of miles per day. They must have at least one day off per week, known as down time, to rest. Therefore, transit times are based on working or calendar days.

Additionally pick up and delivery drivers must be arranged if providing door to door service. This exchange extends the time required.

Weather, Traffic, Toll stops, and Holidays must also be factored into the time frame.

Why can the household goods mover get my furniture to me in a week and it takes you longer to deliver my car?

Depending on the size of your household goods shipment, your delivery time will vary with the van line as well.

If you have a large load that takes up the majority of the truck, your household goods can get there in the time it takes for the driver to drive there. However, a car carrier has up to 8 – 10 spots on the carrier. Different vehicle owners can occupy all of these spots. With that, the driver has to make up to ten stops along his route. In some cases, your vehicle could be the last vehicle that fills up that carrier, thus making the transit time shorter because the driver will not have to wait to fill his load.

I ship my vehicles with the van line, why should I use your service?

On occasion, whenever the van lines have the opportunity to load additional household goods from another transferee, they will remove the vehicle from the van and have another car carrier haul it. This can delay the transit time and leave you vulnerable to an unknown carrier transporting your vehicle.

How do you move the vehicles?

All vehicles are moved on car carriers built specifically to haul vehicles. Vehicles are tied down using the factory equipped tie downs that every vehicle has in the chassis.
